Remote Access โ€” Connect from Anywhere

Control your HelixMind CLI from any device via the web app. One command, works from your phone.

Remote Access

HelixMind supports two connection modes between your CLI and the web app. Local mode works when the browser runs on the same machine as the CLI. Remote mode lets you connect from anywhere โ€” your phone, a tablet, or another computer โ€” via an encrypted relay.

How It Works

Local Mode (Same Machine)

When you run helixmind on your PC and open the web app in the same machine's browser, the app auto-discovers CLI instances on localhost. No setup needed.

Browser โ†’ ws://127.0.0.1:{port} โ†’ CLI

Remote Mode (From Anywhere)

When you want to access your CLI from a different device (e.g., your phone), the CLI connects outbound to the HelixMind relay server, and your browser connects to the same relay. The relay forwards messages between them.

CLI โ†’ wss://helix-mind.ai/api/relay/cli (API key auth)
             โ†• Relay Server โ†•
Phone โ†’ wss://helix-mind.ai/api/relay/web (Session auth)

Both connections are outbound โ€” no port forwarding, no firewall changes, no VPN required.

Setup: One Command

helixmind connect

This opens a pairing flow:

  1. A device code appears in your terminal (e.g., ABCD-EFGH)
  2. Your browser opens to the confirmation page
  3. Log in (or scan the code on your phone) and enter the code
  4. The CLI receives an API key and stores it automatically
  5. Done. Your CLI is now accessible from any device where you're logged in.

helixmind connect is an alias for helixmind login. Both do exactly the same thing.

Alternative: Manual API Key

If the browser flow doesn't work (e.g., headless server), you can create an API key in the web dashboard and pass it directly:

helixmind connect --api-key hm_your_key_here

What You Can Do Remotely

Once connected, the web app gives you full control:

FeatureDescription
Live OutputSee CLI output in real-time
ChatSend messages to the AI agent
SessionsView and manage running sessions
Start TasksLaunch Auto, Security, or Jarvis sessions
PermissionsApprove or deny tool permission requests
FindingsView security findings and bug reports
CheckpointsBrowse and revert to previous states
SwarmStart and monitor multi-agent swarms

Security

  • All remote connections use TLS encryption (wss://)
  • CLI refuses non-TLS connections to remote servers
  • API keys are hashed (SHA-256) before storage โ€” the raw key is never stored on the server
  • Remote clients cannot escalate permissions beyond L3 (Act-Safe)
  • L4 (Act-Bold) and L5 (Full-Auto) must be set locally in the terminal
  • Tool permission responses from remote don't include mode escalation

Configuration

After running helixmind connect, these config values are set automatically:

KeyValueDescription
relay.urlhttps://helix-mind.aiWeb platform URL
relay.apiKeyhm_...Your encrypted API key
relay.autoConnecttrueAuto-connect on CLI startup
relay.userEmailYour emailLinked account
relay.planYour plan tierFeature access level

To check your connection status:

helixmind whoami

To disconnect:

helixmind logout

Troubleshooting

CLI shows "Waiting for authorization..." but nothing happens

  • Make sure you're logged into the web app in your browser
  • Check that the device code hasn't expired (15 minute timeout)
  • Try helixmind connect --force to restart the flow

Remote connection drops frequently

  • The CLI auto-reconnects with exponential backoff (1s to 30s)
  • Check your internet connection stability
  • Verify the relay server is reachable: curl https://helix-mind.ai/api/health

Phone can't see the CLI instance

  • Ensure helixmind connect completed successfully (helixmind whoami should show "connected")
  • The CLI must be running โ€” remote access only works while the CLI process is active
  • Check that you're logged into the same account on both devices
